The CarlinKit 4.0 adapter overrides the DPI proposed by the head unit, thus enabling the user to select a more visually pleasing rendering via their CarPlay app. This comes at a cost though, as smaller icons become harder to hit and text is harder to read. The responsiveness is still superior compared to the older 3.0 version though. This is a great feature that I hope the upcoming 5.0 adapter will continue to offer. The only thing I would like to see is a passthrough USB port for charging (but not wired CarPlay) as the current output of the CarlinkKit 4.0 adapter is insufficient to enable charging of the connected phone at a reasonable speed.
