Spray Foam Insulation – Quality Insulation For Your Home

The basic job of insulation is to resist the flow of heat in and out of your home. It keeps your warm house cozy in the winter and cool in the summer, which in turn saves you money.Resource: https://qualityinsulationva.com/

Traditional fiberglass or cellulose can do just that, but spray foam takes the concept to the next level by creating a complete air barrier in your home and its components. Spray foam does this by forming tiny pockets of air within the sprayed material that make it difficult for heat energy or sound to pass through them. It also expands into and fills all nooks and crannies, even those in hard-to-reach places.

Spray Foam Insulation: The Key to Quality and Efficiency

Spray foam comes in two varieties: open and closed cell. Open-cell is the preferred choice here in the southeastern United States because it provides superior moisture control, which is critical for spray foam installation in humid climates. In either case, the application process is similar. The chemicals (isocyanate and polyol resin) are kept in separate hoppers or tanks, transported to the site via either gas pressure or a liquid pump, and then mixed at the tip of an application gun to be sprayed into place. As it dries, the foam expands and hardens, creating an effective protection barrier.

A professional installer is necessary, as is proper ventilation during the spraying process. The chemicals emit a toxic gas while curing, so it’s important to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). It can take several days for the foam to fully cure, during which time you’ll need to keep children and pets out of the area. After it does, however, the cured insulation is non-toxic.
